James “Big Jim” McConnell - (Steve Cox) Late 50′s truck driver, former Army National Guard (Infantry). Gung-ho good ole boy, very proficient with weapons and explosives. Unofficial leader of the compound.

Junior – (Open) Mid thirties, was in national guard with Big Jim, more low key than Jim, more quiet, cerebral. Character plays major role in side story flashbacks.

Mike Fontaine – (Open) Late thirties, militia type, conspiracy theorist, high strung, nervous, intelligent, but squirrely.

Craig “Doc” Martin – (Open) Early thirties, former Navy medic, quiet, serious, combat veteran.

Andrea McKay – (Open) Thirty-ish, former dental hygenist, motherly type, nurturing, caretaker and mother hen.

Karl McKay – (Open) Early fifties, construction forman husband of Andrea McKay, gruff, bit of a drinker.

Cody McKay – (Open) Teen, son of Andrea and Karl, withdrawn, sullen adolescent.

Sandra Fortner – (Open) Mid twenties, spoiled, whiny, used to getting by on her looks.

Alexis Michaels – (Open) Mid forties, school teacher, smart, independent and tough.

Wayne Markham – (Steve Cox) Mid forties, former cop, mistrusting and protective of his sister.

Karen Markham - (Open) Late thirties, sister of Wayne Markham, legal clerk, friendly and open, history of bad relationships.

Insanity breeds creativity?

I take medication to control depression and I recently went for a while with out my “happy pills” and I seemed to experience a huge surge in creativity that also was accompanied by some unpleasant mood swings and all the other fun stuff that one experiences when one is chemically imbalanced. I have often wondered about the connection, if indeed there is one, between mental illness and creativity. You often read stories about famous artists and geniuses and their struggles to function “normally”, and this seems to beg several questions. For instance, does insanity breed creativity, or does creativity drive one to insanity? Are our inner demons our real muses? When released from the chemical restraints of modern pharmacology, are our minds somehow more free to think outside the box? Would Edgar Allen Poe have been as talented had he not been mentally ill and addicted to alcohol and morphine? Or is our creativity at times strong enough to push us over the edge? Perhaps this entire line of thought is merely like a snake eating it’s own tail, a question of the chicken and the egg. My head hurts, I have to go take my medicine now.

As you may or may not have noticed, there have been some changes to the website. Big C and I have put some work into the site. Actually, Big C put in a lot of work and I did a lot of tweaking and other tomfoolery. Changes made were;

1) MP3 Player featuring music I’ve recorded in the Jagged Edge Studio. (Big thanks to Big C for putting that widget on the site!)

2) Blogroll on the right edge with links to my favorite podcast people.

3) Brand spanking new logo!

4) This written blog you are reading right this very minute!

5) A bunch of behind the scenes stuff that just make it easier for me to post and edit.

I hope everyone likes the changes that Big C and I have made to the site and that it adds to your enjoyment of FTE!

The art of interview

I was excited when I was able to wrangle an interview with comedian Brad Loekle, having no luck getting interviews with the likes of Larry Miller and Adam Carolla. Once the scheduled day arrived, I began to get nervous, imagining all the things that could go wrong, after all, I was not exactly a professional in this area. After a minor phone glitch, everything went surprisingly well and Brad was a real professional and made the whole experience enjoyable. Perhaps in the future, my skills as an interviewer will improve and I will be able to interview more and more celebrities. You hear that, Al Pacino? I’m gunnin’ for you!
